Florida is waiting! Why aren't you here?

Verna Mae Eady Real Estate, Inc. welcomes you to North Central Florida! Are you ready to follow the sun? The tri-county area is rural, yet only an hour or less to Gainesville, and Ocala and only a little over two hours to Orlando or Tampa - close enough for that big city adventure if you want it!

Chiefland Florida - A City in Transition

Chiefland, FL is located in northwestern Levy County and is a growing community which draws retirees and others wishing to leave the harsh winter weather of northern states behind.

Chiefland's name originated by being the place where the head chief of local native American tribes lived and governed. Settlement came in the early to mid-1800's. Two stagecoach routes crossed here until it received its charter in 1913 and the railroad came through. Chiefland was incorporated in 1929.

Much of Chiefland's economy is still agricultural with 929 residential households according to the 2000 census. Planned growth and improvements to county roads, city streets, and water systems are underway as Chiefland works to keep the quality of life high for its residents. New business also continues to insure Chiefland’s growth and appeal to new residents.

Local recreational interests include:

1) Florida's Nature Coast Trail
which was constructed along a former railroad route and allows hikers and cyclists to travel over 60 miles (in our area) on a path where motor vehicles are forbidden.

2) Manatee Springs State Park,
is one of the top ten campgrounds in the country, offering swimming, diving, picnics, and beautiful views of the historic Suwannee River where manatees can often be seen.

3) Goethe Park
is becoming popular with equestrians and also offers camping along with the riding trails.

4) The annual Chiefland Watermelon Festival
at harvest time and the Christmas Parade and Light Up Chiefland are popular local events.

5) The Chiefland Gold and Country Club
is available for golfing enthusiasts.

6) The Chiefland GoKart Park
offers fun recreation for young and old alike.

A much needed addition to the Chiefland landscape will soon appear in the form of the newly approved Tri-County Hospital due to be constructed and in use by 2011. This long awaited dream is finally ours!

While still holding onto the past in many ways, Levy County residents acknowledge that constant change and growth is inevitable, and welcomed by most, as Chiefland transitions slowly into the future of Levy County and North Central Florida.
